Kyle Busch’s prowess was on full display Friday night during the Camping World Truck Series (CWTS) race at Daytona. Busch led a good part of the 100-lap event and he edged out Timothy Peters at the line to win his first career CWTS race at Daytona. Timothy Peters took advantage of a rare mistake by Ron Hornaday Jr. on the last restart at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to win the Smith’s 350 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
Peters started 12th and when the last caution came out late in the race, he was running second to Hornaday, who is known for his prowess on restarts. When the green flag flew with two laps to go, Hornaday spun his tires and Peters powered to the lead. Four different drivers under the age of 21 have won Camping World Truck Series races in 2013, including the most recent winner Chase Elliott at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park last weekend. Elliott also made history as the youngest winner in the history of the series at 17 years, nine months and four days. The reasons why fans adore the Bristol Motor Speedway were on display during the truck race Wednesday night. Classic Bristol showed up to put on quite a wild show. Action was evident throughout the race and a photo finish was the perfect end to the night. Kyle Busch edged out Timothy Peters in an ending that would fit the term “checkers or wreckers” perfectly.
