NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide Races Defy Rain Thanks To Track-Drying Technology
Last Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5 at Talladega Superspeedway, a strong spring storm deposited more than an inch of rain on the grounds around the largest venue in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Despite some breaks in the clouds both days, the 2.66-mile track was soaked at the most inopportune times – just before the start of the NASCAR Nationwide Series (May 4) and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (May 5) races. Georgia Man Reported Missing, Last Seen at Talladega Superspeedway
A Georgia man was reported missing after last being seen camping at the Talladega Superspeedway during the Aaron’s 499 race weekend.
According to the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office, Nicholas Bower, 27, was last seen around 11 p.m. Saturday in the South Park area of the Superspeedway, camping with friends during the event.
Bower is from Villa Rica, Ga. He stands 6’4″ tall and weighs 185 pounds.
He was last seen wearing a black Fastenal hoodie and a black Fastenal hat with a mesh back. He may or may not have had a gray North Face jacket at the time, as well.
Bower is an employee of Fastenal in Atlanta.
Anyone with information regarding Bower’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office at 256-362-6117.

The following statement is from Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III:
“We are clearly disappointed by the outcome last week in the Florida Legislature. We made a very compelling case for what could have been a successful public / private partnership with the State of Florida to create jobs and generate real economic growth. We also had substantial local, regional and statewide support.
“However, given this setback to our project, we are forced to reassess the proposed redevelopment and closely examine a number of factors such as its timing, size and scope, before we decide on next steps.”

On May 7, 2013 the Chief Appellate Officer heard and considered the appeal of the penalties from the No. 2 and No. 22 Penske Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams. These penalties stemmed from pre-race inspection for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Texas Motor Speedway April 13.
The penalties concern Sections 12-1: Actions detrimental to stock car racing; 12-4J: Any determination by NASCAR Officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to the NASCAR rules detailed in Section 20 of the NASCAR rule book, or has not been approved by NASCAR prior to the event; and Continue reading
