Indianapolis has seen its fair share of history. For NASCAR, it all started 20 years ago when the Sprint Cup Series ran at the Brickyard for the very first time. Back then, this race was one of the most anticipated races NASCAR has ever seen. Fans filled the grandstands to witness history and surely they did. The famous yard of bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was home to a new series last season, and once again in 2013, the that series is returning for their next race. A successful debut at the world-famous circuit has the Nationwide Series returning this weekend for the second annual Indiana 250. Cup regulars stole the show by using their track experience last season, but the Nationwide regulars are prepared to put up a fight with one race under their belts. Allmendinger to Drive in Brickyard Grand Prix Grand-Am Race

Open-wheel, NASCAR veteran also plans to compete in Sprint Cup event July 28 at IMS

AJ Allmendinger will add a third race to his Indianapolis Motor Speedway resume later this month, as he will drive for Michael Shank Racing in the Brickyard Grand Prix GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race Friday, July 26 during the Kroger Super Weekend at the Brickyard.

Allmendinger will share driving duties in the No. 6 Michael Shank Racing Ford-Riley with Firestone Indy Lights veteran Gustavo Yacaman in the three-hour sports car race on the 13-turn, 2.534-mile Grand Prix road course at IMS. Continue reading

Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion and Indiana native Tony Stewart will come to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in late July with one purpose in mind — joining the exclusive company of three-time winners at the Racing Capital of the World.

“That would be huge,” Stewart said during a promotional visit to IMS. “You look at the history of this track and you look at whose won races here and how many times they’ve won, and I was honored to win one of them, and the second was even that much better. “When you realize how much thinner it gets when you start adding one more victory, you get into some pretty elite company, and it’s some company you’d definitely like having your name associated with, so it would be a big honor. It doesn’t matter if you’ve won one or 20, when I’m at Indy I am only here to win, especially since it is my home track.” Continue reading
