Lucas Oil Buell Pro Stock Motorcycle riders Hector Arana Jr. and Adam Arana helped raised more than $12,000 for charity this past March as part of Sonoma Raceway‘s NHRA Tour de Charity.
The Arana brothers raced against fans at the Sonoma Raceway Karting Center in the sold-out event that raised $12,025 for Speedway Children’s Charities. The event has raised a total of more than $122,000 in its 11 years.
Speedway Children’s Charities, the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway, raises funds for distribution to qualified youth organizations in Sonoma County.
“I’ve never really done an event like this, and I loved it,” Arana Jr. said “It’s great interacting with the fans and having the time to really talk to them. Plus, I had a really good time racing with my brother, even though he beat me.”
Adam Arana, a rookie aboard the ProtectTheHarvest.com Buell in NHRA this season, won “King of the Track” honors among NHRA racers – which also included Funny Car driver Josh Crawford – with a best lap of 1 minute, 1.281 seconds around the Karting Center’s 16-turn, .75-mile track.
“Hector and I had a blast,” Adam said. “It’s awesome that the track was able to raise so much money for charity, and it was truly an honor to be able to participate. I appreciate the opportunity Forrest and Charlotte Lucas have given me to race this year, and to be able to represent Lucas Oil and Protect the Harvest at this event is truly special.”
Nearly 40 race fans donated to Speedway Children’s Charities to be able to participate in the event.
“I come out for a number of reasons,” said fan Roger Hall of Danville, Calif. “Partly because it helps support a great cause, but also because it’s a really fun day, great people, great location and it helps fulfill my need for speed.”
The Simraceway Performance Driving Center provided the karts, race suits, classroom instruction and on-track pointers for all competitors. The NHRA racers also signed autographs and donated memorabilia for a raffle.
