Emmy-Nominated Mindy Kaling Leading the Field of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Drivers at Auto Club Speedway

Star of Mindy Project is driving Official NASCAR Pace Car for Auto Club 400 Sunday, March 23rd

Auto Club Speedway announced today that Mindy Kaling will be behind the wheel of the Official NASCAR 2014 Toyota Camry Pace Car as she leads the field of 43 stock cars before the start of the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday, March 23, at 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET, televised on FOX. 

Emmy Award-nominated Mindy Kaling is a quadruple-threat to be reckoned with. Kaling is an actor, writer, producer and director. She wears all these hats on the critically acclaimed series THE MINDY PROJECT.  Kaling, along with THE MINDY PROJECT’s creative staff, recently was nominated for a Writers Guild Award for Best New Series for THE MINDY PROJECT.

Kaling also starred as “Kelly Kapoor” on the Emmy Award-winning comedy “The Office.” Initially hired in 2004 as a writer and performer for the American version of the British cult hit, she wrote more than 18 episodes of the series, including “Niagara,” which scored her an Emmy nod. In 2009, she debuted as a director, with the episode “Subtle Sexuality,” and she subsequently was named an executive producer on the series.

“The Office” was nominated and won multiple awards, including: Writers Guild of America Awards, Television Critics Association Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Golden Globe Awards and Emmy Awards. Kaling was singled out when she was nominated for a 2008 Image Award in the Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series category for the “Branch Wars” episode of “The Office.” The comedy was nominated for a 2012 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Furthermore, Kaling and the creative staff were nominated for a 2010 Writers Guild Award for Outstanding Achievement in Television in the Comedy Series category.

Kaling has been featured on Entertainment Weekly’s list of the 10 Funniest Actresses in Hollywood. She was twice featured on Rolling Stone’s Hot List: once in 2007 as Hot Hyphenate, for writing and acting on “The Office”; and then again in 2009 for Hot Network Hope. Also in 2009, she was featured as one of Variety’s 10 Screenwriters to Watch.
