After spending many hours running thousands of practice laps under Bubba and Cale Gale’s supervision, Brandon Jones began his first year of competition midway through the 2010 season. Steve Billmyer brings a unique perspective to our Saturday night show. He started at the top, and worked his way down is the way he describes his career. Billmyer was the 4th employee at Hendrick Motorsports and was a tire engineer for nine years. On race day over the years, he was a tire carrier for several different drivers including, Geoff Bodine, Tim Richmond, Benny Parsons, Ken Schrader, and Greg Sacks. Billmyer says he learned about stock car racing from the legendary Harry Hyde and was Crew Chief for 15 years for the Billmyer Racing Late Model Stock Car, partnering with his dad. Drivers who raced their 1st stock car in a Billmyer Racing LMSC were Todd Bodine – CWTS champion, Timothy Peters – CWTS multiple race winner, and Jimmie Johnson – six-time Sprint Cup champion. He was also a Crew Chief for a K&N Pro Series East stock car until his retirement. One of Billmyer’s career highlights includes working as a ‘Technical Consultant’ on the movie “Days of Thunder.”

Throwback Thursday – Reflecting on NASCAR’s Easter Weekend Races

All of NASCAR’s top three divisions will get the weekend off for the Easter holiday, but NASCAR is no stranger to racing on the Easter weekend. 

The last Cup race ran on Easter Sunday was at Richmond International Raceway on March 26, 1989. The original date in February was a wash due to snow and rescheduled for that date. Rusty Wallace went on to win that day, leading 88 laps. Continue reading

ARCA Racing driver Michael Lira to Test at Talladega Superspeedway

Sixteen-year-old Spruce Creek High School student and race car driver Michael Lira will be heading to Talladega Superspeedway this week to participate in two days of test sessions with the ARCA Racing Series. It will be Lira’s first time running on the legendary Alabama race track and only his second time on a superspeedway. Lira’s previous superspeedway experience came last December, when he tested at Daytona International Speedway in his ARCA car. The testing dates at Talladega are set for April 16 – 17.
