The 2014 ARCA Racing Series champion, Mason Mitchell took the next step of his career with his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East début at Bowman-Gray Stadium on Saturday, May 29th. The owner of Mason Mitchell Motorsports, joined with Hattori Racing Enterprises driving the No. 1 Gosei Toyota and feeling good about his K&N East test at the track earlier in the week.
“Our test was successful on Wednesday,” Mitchell stated. “We made big gains all day and continued to improve our car. The biggest challenge was learning the grip level in these tires compared to an ARCA car. I can’t thank everyone at HRE and Shige Hattori enough for allowing me to make my NASCAR K&N Pro Series East début this weekend.”
“Qualifying is going to be a key component for the race. A winner has never started outside the top-ten so we need to start up front. I really enjoyed the track during the test and am looking forward to a successful race Saturday.”
Mitchell’s qualifying result of 16th-place, was not quite what he wanted for his first start in the series, but he made of the most of his situation at the historic Bowman Gray Stadium.
No stranger to racing on short tracks in the ARCA Racing Series, Mitchell has 22 starts, accumulating 17 top-ten’s along with nine top-five finishes. Mitchell’s best finish on short tracks is second-place, three times, most recently at the Salem Speedway last fall.
Putting his ARCA Racing Series and K&N East test experience to work, with his crew chief, Jamie Jones, Mitchell worked his way into the top-ten, bringing home an eighth-place finish in his first series career race. Jones and Mitchell have worked together in the past, most recently last year at Mason Mitchell Motorsports.
The K&N East NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 will broadcast on the NBC Sports Network on Thursday, June 4th at 6:00 pm ET.
Mitchell will help our Fan4Racing crew preview the next ARCA race at Pocono Raceway this weekend with his team supporting the two entries of Austin Wayne Self piloting the No. 98, along with the No. 78 with a driver yet announced.
The broadcast of the Pocono ARCA 200 is on FOX Sports 2 at 1 pm ET on June 6th.
