Making history at Iowa Speedway this weekend, Brandon McReynolds brought home his second K&N Pro Series combo event victory of the season, becoming the first driver to ever earn back-to-back victories for this event. Winning the #ThanksKenny 150 at the .875-mile track completes McReynolds’ sweep, earning Bill McAnally Racing its 60th victory during their 25th season.
Since 2007, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series has visited Iowa Speedway 13 times for their East meets West combination event. McReynolds is the only repeat winner among several past winners, including some well-known NASCAR drivers, Joey Logano, Chase Elliott and Cole Custer.
In dominating fashion, McReynolds led 127 of 150 laps after, earning the pole position in qualifying. A hard charging Jesse Little raced ahead of McReynolds on the last restart; but keeping his focus, McReynolds charged back, cleared Little and sped toward the checkered flag and his historic win.
As the highest finishing K&N East driver, Little was still given a series victory, after placing second in the event. Rounding out the top-five were Spencer Davis, Rico Abreu and Noah Gragson. James Bickford, JJ Haley, Scott Heckert, Collin Cabre and Alex Schutte round out the top-ten.
The championship battle is heating up in the K&N West series as Noah Gragson moves ahead with his fifth-place finish at Iowa and now sits just two points ahead of Chris Eggleston who was the points leader before the Iowa race. Seven points behind Eggleston is Gracin Raz, with Ryan Partridge just one marker behind. The race winner, McReynolds, now has two victories, five top-tens in eight starts this season and is eighth in the point standings, which is 35 points out of the lead.
To put that into perspective, K&N East championship contender, William Byron kept his points lead and is 25 markers ahead of Scott Heckert in second, and 33 points over Austin Hill, who is third.
