At just 16 years of age, Las Vegas resident Riley Herbst was born to race. He grew up watching his father and grandfather compete in off-road racing classics such as the Baja 500 and 1000. Developing his passion for racing, Herbst started racing Go-Karts at the age of 5 and in 2007 he transitioned to Trophy Karts. By 2012 Herbst was racing on ovals with Legend Cars and now races at Irwindale Speedway in Speed Trucks and Late-Models as part of NASCAR’s Whelen All-American Series.
Racing at Irwindale Speedway has given Herbst the chance to race with some of the best in the sport, including Larry Roeseler, the winningest off-road athlete in Baja history; Ryan Arciero from open-wheel, Robby Gordon and Dylan Kwasniewski.
Now second in the Speed Truck point standings, Herbst is also the top Rookie of the Year candidate. As for the Whelen All-American Series Late-Model division, he missed the first two races of the season, so Herbst is working hard to rev up the season by putting himself back into contention for Rookie of the Year honors.
Herbst and his team plan to race with LFR for a couple of races in the east, including possibly the Snow Ball Derby, an event that has propelled the careers of several up and coming drivers within NASCAR.
Maintaining a GPA of 3.5, Herbst is a student at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.
