Heading to his home track at Salem Speedway with the ARCA Racing Series this weekend, Sellersburg, Indiana native, Will Kimmel joined his uncle Frank Kimmel and cousin, Frankie Kimmel II for the weekend event. He led the Kimmel family with a third-place finish, followed by Frankie Kimmel II in tenth and Frank Kimmel in 23rd-place after a cut tire deflated his chances in the Federated Car Care Fall Classic 200 on Saturday night.
After qualifying to start the race from eighth-place, Kimmel finished two spots short of earning his first ever ARCA victory. This was his third top-five and fourth top-ten of the season, with Kimmel Racing in his No. 69 Ford. Leading the second-most laps at 67, Kimmel led the field twice around the 0.5-mile short track.
Kimmel is a third-generation driver, as his grandfather and father have raced for decades at Salem Speedway.
The Kimmel legacy spans the decades from the 1960’s when his grandfather Bill Kimmel Sr raced Sprint and Stock Cars on the high-banked Salem track. His father Bill Kimmel Jr as a frequent winner in all divisions at the track and his uncle Frank Kimmel is the winningest driver in ARCA Racing Series history, with nine of his 80 victories at Salem.
In his own right and winning in just about everything at Salem, Kimmel has victories in Street Stock, Super Stock and Super Late Model divisions, becoming the youngest Super Late Model champion at Salem in 2007.
Next up for the ARCA Racing Series is the Crosley Brands 150 at Kentucky Speedway on September 25th. Teams will test at Kentucky a couple of days before on September 22nd.
