Racing his rookie season in the K&N Pro Series East with HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks, just about every track on the schedule is new for Hunter Baize. But Columbus Motor Speedway is a familiar track for the 18 year-old driver, having earned his first career stock car victory at the tricky 1/3-mile oval with his family owned late-model team.
Heading into the weekend for the NAPA 150 at Columbus, leaves Baize and his team looking for more this weekend.
“With Columbus Motor Speedway being the site of my first late model win, this track means a lot to me,” says Baize. “I know my guys will give me a great car and I think we’ll have a chance to make it the site of my first K&N win as well.”
Although that victory was his only one at the Columbus, Baize has confidence going into this weekend and with his experience, he considers it his favorite place to race.
But on the journey to where he is today, Baize has had plenty of success along the way, finishing third in the ARCA/CRA Super Series point standings last season with two wins at the Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana and Flat Rock Speedway in Carlton, Michigan. Baize also finished ninth in his ARCA Racing Series debut at Berlin Speedway in Marne, Michigan, followed by a sixth-place run at Springfield’s Illinois State Fairgrounds.
This season, Baize is eighth in the K&N Pro Series East point standings with five top-ten finishes in seven starts. His best finish of sixth was at VIRginia International Raceway earlier this year. There’s a good chance, Baize will improve on that this weekend at Columbus.
