After finishing 12th in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona last weekend, Ben Rhodes rallied his ThorSport Racing No. 27 team to a fourth-place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday in the Active Pest Control 200. It was Rhodes second start at the 1.54-mile track where his began the race in 15th-place and ran as high as second place.
“Man this was such a great run for my No. 27 Safelite Toyota team,” said Rhodes. “It was a little discouraging qualifying where we did, but we fought all night, and stayed up front. I think we could have been out there doing doughnuts tonight, if we would have timed that restart a little better. I’m glad that I was able to help push a Toyota to victory, just wish it would have been a ThorSport Racing Toyota Tundra.”
After scoring bonus points for finishing fourth, and third, in both the first and second stages of the race, The 2014 K&N Pro Series East champion was able to put his team in contention to compete for a win late in the race. Restarting third, with less than 15 laps left to run, Rhodes didn’t get the restart he needed to edge race winner, Christopher Bell, out off the lead, and crossed the stripe fourth. The solid run was the sophomore driver’s first top-five finish in two starts at Atlanta.
In Rhode’s second season with ThorSport Racing, the Louisville, Kentucky native is showing no signs of a sophomore slump and is moving his team in the right direction with the support of his crew chief, Eddie Troconis. Last season, Troconis led the No. 13 ThorSport team with driver Cameron Hayley.
The Camping World Truck Series’ teams will take a break as their next race is The Alpha Energy Solutions 250 at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday, April 1st. Look for Rhodes to continue a strong effort to win and contend in the Camping World Truck Series.
