Earns second K&N Pro Series West victory of the season
Dominating the day at Orange Show Speedway, Chris Eggleston led two practice sessions, and took the Coors Light pole position to start on the front row for the Sunrise Ford 150 on Saturday night. Eggleston then dominated the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race bringing his Bill McAnally Racing No. 99 to victory for the second consecutive year at the quarter-mile California track.
Eggleston led a race-high 71 laps, with 12 lead changes among five drivers in the 150-lap event. It was his seventh series career victory and second win of the season with the 2015 series champion, also winning the season opener at Tucson Speedway. The victory also marks his sixth top-five finish in six starts this season. Eggleston has now closed his second place gap in the series point standings to just 11 points behind points leader, Todd Gilliland.
“The NAPA Filters Toyota was rolling tonight. That’s for sure,” said Eggleston after the race. “We were pretty good and patient through lapped traffic. Staying patient and keeping a good head on our shoulders was the key. There was a lot of beating and banging halfway through and toward the end of the race.”
Sheldon Creed and Todd Souza came home second and third, with Kody Vanderwal and Takuma Koga rounding out the top-five.
Involved in a multi-car incident on lap 121, Todd Gilliland rebounded to a sixth-place finish as the last car on the lead lap. Gilliland came into the day with five poles and four victories in the first five starts this season.
Bill Kahn and Michael Self finished in seventh and eighth, with Matt Levin and John Wood rounding out the top-ten.
The Sunrise Ford 150 will air on NBCSN on Friday, May 26 at 8 pm ET.
NASCAR K&N Pro Series West teams are back in action from Colorado National Speedway on Saturday, June 10th for the Toyota 150. A year ago, Eggleston followed up his Orange Show win with a victory at his home track in Colorado.
