Making his ARCA Racing Series debut this weekend at Kentucky Speedway with Mason Mitchell Motorsports is 17-year-old Blaine Perkins.

Perkins is in his second season with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and will drive the No. 78 for Mason Mitchell Motorsports under the lights on Friday night. Earlier this week, the team took part in an open test session at the 1.5-mile track to prepare for the Crosley Brands 150.

“Making my debut in the ARCA Series this week means a lot because it is also my first start on a track over a mile,” Perkins stated. “The biggest challenges will come with learning the track and getting used to the radial tires used in ARCA. The test on Tuesday is going to be very important for me as a driver. Every lap I will be learning. It is an honor to run for such a successful team like Mason Mitchell Motorsports. They are an élite team and I am looking forward to having a great run on Friday.”

In Perkin’s 26 starts with the K&N Pro Series West, he has earned one top-five and 14 top-ten finishes. His best result was in his rookie season (2016) when he came home with a fifth-place finish at Colorado National Speedway.

In 2012, the Bakersfield, California native started racing the SRL Legends Tour and in his first full-time season in 2013, Perkins earned three top-fives and finished second in the overall championship points. He’s made several starts in the SRL Southwest Tour along with starts in the Lucas Oil Modifieds. Perkins made his entry into the K&N Pro Series West earning one top-five and ten top-tens, finishing tenth in the series point standings.

On Friday, Perkins will race the same chassis No. 589 that Chase Purdy raced two weeks ago at Salem Speedway, finishing sixth. In 23 starts, this chassis has two victories at Iowa in 2015 and Springfield in 2016, along with 13 top-fives and 20 top-ten finishes.
