Phoenix Winners and Losers as the NASCAR Cup Series teams head back East to Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend.

The west coast swing is now under wraps. The FanShield 500 at Phoenix Raceway is the last of three races out west following the season-opening Daytona 500. And it ends with the season’s first repeat winner, as Joey Logano picks up his second win of the season. Besides the winner and where everybody finished, the race made headlines for a few other reasons.

Ryan Newman on NBC’s Today Show on Wednesday

CONCORD, N.C., (March 10, 2020) – Roush Fenway Racing’s Ryan Newman will travel to New York City to pay a visit to the award-winning Today Show on NBC for an exclusive, sit down interview with show hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin. 

The segment featuring Newman is scheduled to air Wednesday morning at 7:40 AM ET.

Newman visited the race track this past weekend at Phoenix Raceway for the first time since his Feb. 17th accident in the Daytona 500. He was released from Halifax Medical Center just two days following the race and continues his recovery.

The NASCAR Cup Series travels this weekend to Atlanta Motor Speedway. A timetable for Newman’s return to the race car has yet to be determined.

Tony Stewart Returns to NASCAR Competition

Tony Stewart the NASCAR Hall of Famer and three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion will return to NASCAR racing in 2020. At least once. It’s great to hear that Stewart is competing in the July 4th Xfinity Series event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He will drive a second Stewart Haas Racing entry. The Xfinity Series is running on the Indianapolis road course for the first time. And that will make this a unique and exciting event for the 2020 season.

Phoenix Power Ranking features the NASCAR Cup Series after the FanShield 500 at Phoenix Raceway

NASCAR visited its first short track of the 2020 season on Sunday, with 38 drivers hitting the track at Phoenix Raceway, a 1-mile flat track. The race was also the ground-breaker for the new aerodynamic package, with a much smaller rear spoiler and much less downforce. It ended with Joey Logano becoming the first repeat race-winner of the year, picking up his second win in four races, and it leads to a new number one in the Phoenix power ranking.

The Lottery for No. 48 is highly sought after by several potential NASCAR Cup Series drivers. It’s a big win for one lucky driver. And perhaps for Hendrick Motorsports too.

Since seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson has said the 2020 season is his last full-time year in the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. The question most ask is who will replace him? Without an answer from team owner Rick Hendrick, speculation in the rumor mill is running rampant on social media.
