Chase Briscoe is literally back home again in Indiana this weekend, as the Mitchell, Indiana native will take on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course on Sunday in the NASCAR Cup Series Verizon 200 at the Brickyard. But before he climbs behind the wheel of the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford, Briscoe will make a few-hour jaunt to Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio to compete against his childhood hero in Thursday night’s Camping World SRX Series event.

Chase Briscoe Competes Against His Boss and Mentor Tony Stewart

Briscoe has wanted to compete in a Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) event since the series was formed in 2020, solely for the chance to compete with his childhood hero turned boss at Stewart-Haas Racing, Tony Stewart.

“I’m super excited. I’ve never had a race against Tony [Stewart], and everybody here knows that he is my absolute hero. So for me, that was the biggest draw to run SRX,” Briscoe said this week in a virtual media availability from outside his high school in Mitchell.

“I wanted to be able to say that I raced with Tony at some point in my career. Obviously knowing that the time was dwindling down, because he’s probably never going to come run a NASCAR race. So, the opportunity, truthfully, came very last minute. Last Thursday, I think at like three o’clock, [Don] Hawk called me and was like, ‘Hey, we have an opening. Would you be interested in coming to run SRX? We’re going to try to announce it at seven or eight o’clock, whenever the TV window is tonight.’ So, it was super last-minute.”

Briscoe Brings Familiar Sponsorship to SRX

Briscoe’s No. 57 SRX machine has a familiar sponsor on Thursday. The partnership with HighPoint.com dates back to 2020 after a chance meeting in Las Vegas. They are supporting Briscoe’s endeavor in the SRX race.

“I don’t think I’d have a career without HighPoint.com, and everyone knows how they came in at the last second to make sure I was in the No. 98 in 2020. Mike and the entire Mendiburu family mean a lot to me,” said Briscoe of the company that has adorned his cars at the Xfinity and Cup level, including when he became the first driver to win a NASCAR race on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn Indy road course with his 2020 Xfinity Series victory.

Eldora Speedway a Familiar Track for Briscoe

The 28-year-old has competed at the half-mile Eldora four times. Three NASCAR Truck Series starts and one start in Stewart’s Eldora Million Late Model race. Briscoe went to victory lane in the 2018 Truck Series race, earning the coveted golden shovel as the feature winner.

“I would put the Eldora Truck win right there with the Cup race (his inaugural Cup Series win at Phoenix in March 2022) just from a personal standpoint,” Briscoe said, ranking it along with his 2020 Xfinity win at the Brickyard and his Xfinity victory at Darlington just days after he and wife Marissa miscarried.

“For me, growing up a dirt guy, Eldora was my Daytona. If you got a race at Eldora, it meant something. I feel like all my heroes were always able to win at Eldora and go onto that stage on the front straightaway. For me, Eldora is super special for that reason. It’s a privilege every time I get a race there, and hopefully I can pull into victory lane there again.”

What to expect in the final laps if it comes down to a battle between Briscoe and Stewart?

“I’ll try not to do what I did at Bristol Dirt the first year. I would rather not get punched by Tony. But obviously, I feel like I need to go beat him just from a job security standpoint. If there’s going to be anybody I race with more respect than anybody else, it’s going to be him. It’ll be fun just to get out there and finally share the racetrack with him.

“It’s crazy to think how many times when I was growing up that I pictured driving his car and that I was him. Now, to finally share the racetrack with him is going to be really special for me. Hopefully I can go and beat him. But regardless, it’s going to be a really cool moment for me.”

Fans can watch Chase Briscoe compete against his boss and mentor Tony Stewart at Eldora Speedway. The SRX race begins on Thursday, August 10th at 9 pm ET with coverage on ESPN.
