Brendan Gaughan makes his first NASCAR Truck Series start in nearly 13 years at the San Diego Streat Course this Friday.
50-year-old Brendan Gaughan will come out of retirement this week to take part in NASCAR’s inaugural race weekend through the streets of San Diego at Naval Base Coronado. He’ll make his return to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series this Friday for the first time since 2013, in the McAnally Hilgemann Racing No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado.

McAnally Hilgemann Racing announced earlier in May that they would field a fifth truck on a part-time basis during the 2026 season. The No. 20 was scheduled to make its debut at Watkins Glen a month ago with Toni Breidinger, but the entry failed to qualify. However, the truck made its first start last week at Michigan, with Daniel Dye taking the wheel and bringing home a solid 15th-place finish.
Gaughan is not widely known for his road course prowess despite having several notable accolades. In 2014, Gaughan pulled off a major upset victory at Road America in the Nationwide series, defeating highly skilled road racers such as Alex Tagliani and Chase Elliott. Gaughan has also earned a victory in the GT Class at the 2011 Rolex 24 at Daytona, just three years earlier in 2011. Gaughan’s last appearance in NASCAR was a disappointing 35th-place finish in the 2021 Yellawood 500 for the Cup Series.
He will look to rebound in his return to NASCAR this Friday and add to his impressive road-course track record.
