The NASCAR Cup Series heads into Richmond, Virginia to begin a stretch of short-track battles. Richmond Raceway is the first of three scheduled short tracks on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule. For the first road course race of 2022, the Circuit of the Americas put on a great event. After last year’s monsoon cut the race short, the course was able to show its true potential in great weather. This course is packed with 20 bruising corners that give drivers a challenge with holding momentum. It is tough for drivers to run a consistent line around the course, and with that, nobody has an advantage.

William Byron holds off the NASCAR Cup Series Field in dramatic Atlanta victory in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 on Sunday afternoon.
After a repave and reconfiguration of Atlanta Motor Speedway, the NASCAR Cup Series returned for their first crack at this new track. Not only did the speedway repave its surface, but it also increased its banking in the corners from 24 degrees to 28 degrees. Atlanta officials were going for more of a superspeedway feel, and they hit it right on the button.
