A Time for Change is Still Needed for the Sprint All-Star Race

Reflect back to the early to mid 2000’s. The All-Star Races during those years were action-packed and go for broke events. Team owners told their drivers to only bring back the steering wheel. Drivers would listen and by only bringing back the steering wheel, it showed they went all-out for the victory. The million dollar prize seemed to mean more back then, because drivers seemed to do everything it took to wind up in first place. Those were the good ‘ole days when the All-Star Race was one of the most spectacular events of the season. Now days, the race seems to have changed and the once incredible All-Star Race needs to regain its prestige as the most exciting night in motorsports. Continue reading →

Overall reaction after Saturday night’s Sprint All-Star race?

After a rather non-eventful race, many fans say they would like to see the race rotated among other tracks and that the race hasn’t lived  up to all the media’s hype in recent years, in particular the last ten-lap shootout.

It’s no secret, the Sprint All-Star race has been a bit of a let down in recent years. There has only been one pass for the lead in the last five laps of the event in the past eight years. In recent years, the most memorable moments of the All-Star race have been the victory lane celebrations. There has also been little beating and banging, despite the promotion to fans. Trent Cherry, Penske Pit Crew Coach is ‘One of a Kind’

TrentCherry22Trent Cherry, also known as ‘Twitch’ around the garage, is a proven leader as Pit Crew Coach and with 15-years under his belt at Penske Racing. He knows what it takes as a member of a successful team because he’s also the rear-tire carrier for the #22-Joey Logano team. Although Trent is now on the #22 crew, he’s also been part of the #2 team for most of his career.

Hailing from Charlotte, NC, Trent Cherry began his working experience packaging t-shirts for his dad’s company. So, he’s certainly at home in NASCAR’s racing hub.

When he’s not performing his duties within the Penske organization, Trent is also working behind the scenes representing all NASCAR Sprint Cup crews via pittalks.com, helping to keep the site updated and featuring various Pit Crew members every week.

As for his favorite racing memory, Trent recalls winning the 2002 All-Star race with Ryan Newman. They raced their way into the event and despite starting in last place, the team worked hard and won the All-Star race!

In his spare time, Trent enjoys playing poker and says that Las Vegas is his favorite track. Of course, that’s not because of the on-track racing; instead its his pursuit of a Royal Flush off the track.

Charlotte Motor Speedway is joining with business leaders from around the country to honor some 10,000 active military and family members before the green flag drops on NASCAR’s ultimate test of man and machine, the May 26 Coca-Cola 600, as part of a Memorial Day weekend saluting the U.S. Armed Forces. The day of tribute will feature a special celebration luncheon hosted by John Schnatter, founder, chairman and CEO of Papa John’s International, where more than 3,000 pizzas will be served to the military guests.
