Nationwide Series’ Great Clips/Grit Chips 300 Preview

NASCAR’s Nationwide Series teams head to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Great Clips/Grit Chips 300 race on Saturday, August 31st. Television coverage begins at 7 pm ET on ESPN2 with radio coverage on PRN, Sirius XM channel 90.

In a points battle too close to call, Nationwide Series contenders are swapping the points lead, among the drivers near the top of the standings. Sam Hornish Jr is watching his narrow advantage over the rest of the field shrink further after Friday’s Bristol race.

Finishing third at Bristol, Austin Dillon followed Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski to jump from fourth to second in the point standings. Hornish’s 13-point advantage over Elliott Sadler is now at six points over Dillon with only ten races left in the season. Sadler who now sits 11 markers behind Hornish, dropped to third.

Allmendinger Cruises to Victory at NNS’ Debut Mid-Ohio Road Course

Saturday’s race was a début for the series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and NASCAR fans were ready in the Buckeye State.  Track management said the turnout Saturday was the best for the track so far this season.

AJ Allmendinger spent most of Saturday afternoon in front, then held on for an extra few laps to earn his second career NASCAR Nationwide Series victory in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Continue reading →

The wait is over for fans wondering who will be behind the wheel of the No. 14 for Tony Stewart at Michigan’s Sprint Cup Series race, the Pure Michigan 400.

While Tony Stewart is recovering from a broken right tibia and fibula suffered in a sprint car wreck on August 5th in Oskaloosa, IA, his organization Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) continues their diligent efforts to field his No. 14 car in the Sprint Cup Series.

Veteran Max Papis drove the No. 14 to a 15th-place finish Sunday at Watkins Glen International, keeping their 11th-place standing in the Sprint Cup Series owner championship standings. This week SHR is tapping talented 23-year-old Austin Dillon as their interim driver for the Pure Michigan 400 race at Michigan International Speedway, August 16-18.   Continue reading →

A little short track out in Iowa will light up for the second time this season when the Nationwide Series hits this tough venue. Rain drenched the race last June, forcing a move to Sunday and then Trevor Bayne and Austin Dillon dueled it out for the victory, with Bayne coming out on top. With the weather looking good, the cars will race under the lights on Saturday night to continue the championship chase. Continue reading →
