Martinsville Speedway is known for exciting races and shaking things up and Sunday’s Tums Fast Relief 500 lived up to expectations.

Chase drivers knew Sunday’s race could make or break their season and for some, their 2012 Chase hopes diminished. Two contenders are still clinging to their chances in the next three Chase events, while two other drivers came out on top, fighting for the Sprint Cup championship top spot, while yet another driver lost their chance to compete for the coveted title. Johnson Survives Late Restarts for Martinsville Win

A miraculous driving job by Jimmie Johnson allowed him and his No.48 team to celebrate in victory lane Sunday afternoon in Martinsville.

Jimmie Johnson drove  the dominant car of the day and some excellent pit road performance by his crew put Johnson out front at the end. Johnson held off Kyle Busch on the final few laps for the victory. Continue reading

Chase Tracker – The Contenders after Talladega

This week’s Chase Tracker after Talladega gave drivers a bit of a shakeup with the last lap wreck involving 25 drivers, including 8 Chase contenders, but left the top-three Chase contenders the same. Keselowski came in the points leader and left as the points leader, with Jimmie Johnson remaining in second place and Denny Hamlin, third in the point standings.

Also, Kyle Busch remains the Best of the Rest non-Chase contenders, after race four of the 2012 Chase season.
