From the moment Kevin Harvick’s No. 5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet took the lead from polesitter Chase Elliott on lap 37, Saturday night’s Great Clips 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway was an open-and-shut case.

His championship-caliber performance provides the No. 22 Shell/Pennzoil Ford Fusion team with the confidence needed to make a run at the title.

Pole-sitter, Jeff Gordon took the lead from Logano with 17 laps remaining in the Pure Michigan 400 to take his third win of the season, and regain the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points lead.
“The last one, I thought he had a good start. But I had a good one, too,” said Gordon. “I really think what happened to him on that last restart was Kevin was having some trouble getting going. This is a big, fast place. There’s a draft there. My lane moved along as a group. Even though Joey got out there, he was sort of sitting on an island by himself. We kind of tracked him down. I was able to get to his left rear. When I got to his left rear, drug him back, gave me a ton of momentum. I was able to get to the bottom and get by him.”
Marcos Ambrose was the man to beat during the NASCAR Nationwide Series Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International and there was no denying his Richard Petty Motorsports No. 09 team a visit to Victory Lane on Saturday afternoon. Ambrose had full control of the lead – 47 of 82 laps – en route to winning his fourth consecutive race at this track. This was Ambrose’s first series win of the 2014 season and his fifth series career victory.
Ambrose is now looking for Dale Jr’s broom – after the No. 88 team swept the races at Pocono last weekend – with an eye toward sweeping this weekend with a Sprint Cup Series win in the Cheez-it 355 on Sunday at 1 pm ET on ESPN. Continue reading →
