Sam Hornish Jr., who hadn’t been in a car in 210 days, gave himself the perfect Father’s Day present on Sunday – a dominant victory in the sixth annual NASCAR XFINITY Series American Ethanol E15 250 presented by Enogen at Iowa Speedway.
Hornish, who last competed in a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race last November at Homestead-Miami Speedway, received a call Monday from Joe Gibbs Racing to substitute for injured driver Matt Tifft. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Sam Hornish Jr. will make his way back to the world’s only 7/8-mile oval this weekend looking to repeat his 2014 win against another stacked field. Hornish Jr., driving the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18, will race in the NASCAR XFINITY Series American Ethanol E15 250 presented by Enogen on Sunday, June 19. It’ll be his first NASCAR race of 2016. Driver Germán Quiroga will return to Red Horse Racing at Texas Motor Speedway. Quiroga will step behind the wheel of the No. 11 Toyota Tundra for the June 10 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the Fort Worth, Texas facility, and possibly additional races if sponsorship can be secured.
“We’re very excited to welcome Germán back to the Red Horse family,” said team owner Tom DeLoach. “We have a great opportunity to get him back behind the wheel and if sponsorship can be found, we hope to be able to run several more races with him.”
Quiroga piloted the No. 77 Toyota Tundra for Red Horse Racing in 2013 and 2014, recording five top-five finishes, including a third-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway in 2013, 16 top-tens and one pole position.
“I’m very happy to return to Red Horse Racing,” said Quiroga. “I hope we can put together a great run at Texas (Motor Speedway) and that we will be able to put something together so I can keep competing this season.”
Matt Tifft will also return to Red Horse Racing for several additional races this season, yet to be announced.
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams are taking a break this weekend and will return to action Friday, June 10th for the Rattlesnake 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. Fans can watch all 250.5 miles during 167 laps on FOX Sports 1 at 8:30 pm ET with a green flag around 9 pm ET. Radio coverage is on MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
Crafton Cruises to Second Consecutive Win
Matt Crafton led a race-high 47 laps in last Saturday’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 to cruise to his second consecutive NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory.
