For the fourth time in his career, Jimmie Johnson scored victory and a million dollars in the Sprint All-Star Race. He did it in classic Jimmie Johnson fashion by not coming alive until the last segment and then doing an all-out blitz to the finish. The race was rather calm, but the historic run by Johnson makes up for some of the vacant storylines of the race.

The race didn’t get far when the green-flag fell because of rain invading the track and causing a red-flag rain-delay for 41 minutes and 28 seconds. Before the delay, Brad Keselowski broke a transmission, taking himself out of contention for the victory. When the delay ended, Kurt Busch was able to stay up front and win the first segment. One of NASCAR’s biggest night of racing will be this Saturday night. It’s All-Star Saturday night and the excitement, drama, and action are expected throughout the evening. The All-Star Race is a very special event and often includes a lot of drama, resulting in great racing. Saturday night kicks off with the Sprint Showdown featuring drivers hoping to get into the main event by finishing first or second in the race. Last Chance for Fan Vote in Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte

downloadOnly three unclaimed spots remain for Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. And 23 drivers will race hard to nab one of them in the Sprint Showdown (7:30 p.m. ET on SPEED), the precursor to the main event scheduled to start at about 9 p.m. ET.

Among that list of 23 are rookies, veterans, winners and former Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup contenders. Three rookies pepper the fields: Danica Patrick, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Timmy Hill. Martin Truex Jr. had a career year last year, making the Chase and vying for a championship. He’ll join Jeff Burton and Juan Pablo Montoya as former Chasers who have yet to lock up a spot.
