Fan Perspective – The Least Popular Banner in NASCAR

nascar-on-tntIf you’ve been watching the last two Sprint Cup races at Pocono and Michigan on TV, then you’ve probably noticed TNT’s new addition this season. The sponsor banner.

Covering a whole line on the top of the screen is this large banner which advertises for multiple companies over the course of the race. It has been a nuisance to fans, because it tends to cover up a good part of the live race. TNT is always trying to slide these little things in during their ‘Summer Series’ of racing and once again this year, their new aspect to the race broadcast has fans up in arms. Continue reading →

Dominating the Tricky Triangle: Johnson Scores Big at Pocono

Jimmie Johnson crossed the finish line first Sunday afternoon after he put on a dominate performance resulting with the No.48 car in victory lane. No one was close to contending with the five-time champion today, allowing him to score his third victory of the season. Johnson is off to an absolute sizzling start this season, heading into the summer, and he will be looking to stay hot.

The race started out with Carl Edwards taking the lead from pole-sitter Johnson on lap one, but by lap ten, it was Johnson back to the top spot. After a debris caution, Ryan Newman stayed out to take the lead on the restart, but Johnson was able to quickly regain the lead. Newman and Johnson swapped for the lead again, but Johnson took full control for the rest of the race, with 47 laps remaining. Continue reading →

An Impressive Second Place Finish for Jones at Pocono Raceway

Pocono Raceway with its three diverse corners is called the “Tricky Triangle” for a reason. It is also arguably one of the hardest superspeedways to make a debut on, yet 17-year-old Erik Jones looked like anything but a rookie, leading a quarter of the Pocono ARCA 200 on Saturday, June 8  and bringing his No. 15 Toyota Care Venturini Motorsports Camry home in second place.

A rule change for the 2013 season by the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards allows Jones to run at Pocono Raceway and Kentucky Speedway. A test date early in the week gave Jones  a day to get acquainted with a different car, team, and how it felt to reach peak speeds of over 200 mph. Ending the test on top of the speed charts, Jones felt more at ease going into the race on Saturday.          Continue reading →
