It’s safe to say, the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season has been a bit of a disappointment for Roush-Fenway Racing. Going into the Quicker State 400 at Kentucky on Saturday night, Roush Fenway driver point standings stood at 19th (Greg Biffle), 27th (Trevor Bayne), and 28th (Ricky Stenhouse Jr.). Up to this point, the three drivers together were at two top-fives and five top-tens. Not the usual, 17 races into the season for a team that has taken home Sprint Cup Series championships in the past.
For years Jack Roush and Roush-Fenway Racing were a team that was a heavy favorite in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Roush won its first championship in 2003 with Matt Kenseth and then added another championship in 2004 with Kurt Busch. They were a powerhouse team from 2000-2009 that was able to field five competitive race cars and the only team in the Sprint Cup Series to do so.
Since 2013 Roush Fenway racing has achieved only five wins between three different race teams. Four of those wins came from former Sprint Cup Series runner-up Carl Edwards who has moved to Joe Gibbs Racing to start the 2015 season. The other victory came from 2005 runner-up Gregg Biffle at Jack Roush’s home track, Michigan, in 2013.
Quite frankly since the end of the 2012 season the team has looked awful and Sunday’s Autism Speaks at Dover was indicative of just that point. Involved in an incident was Trevor Bayne while Ricky Stenhouse Jr had problems with his car from the drop of the green flag and Greg Biffle found himself caught up in a scuffle and finished a team high of 17th-place. Before the “Monster Mile” heats up for May 29-31 race weekend, NASCAR drivers, broadcasters, personalities, and more will tee up in the annual “Drive for Autism” Celebrity Golf Outing.
Held each year in Wilmington, Delaware, drivers will exchange their steering wheels for a golf club to support a great cause. Many of today’s top competitors will be present on May 28th and will compete for the best score rather than a trip to Victory Lane. Continue reading →

Thanks to a brief but wild Kansas spring storm and the long delay it produced, Jimmie Johnson on Sunday became the first NASCAR Sprint Cup driver to win a race on Mother’s Day since 2007.
Johnson, who is pursuing a record-tying seventh Sprint Cup Series championship this season, held off Kevin Harvick over the last six laps to win Sunday morning’s SpongeBob SquarePants 400 at Kansas Speedway.
Johnson’s victory – which was just after midnight local time because of a delay of 2 hours and 16 minutes – was his third of the season and his third at the 1.5-mile Kansas oval.
“It was a long, hard night,” Johnson, who led just ten laps and spun out unassisted early in the race, said in Victory Lane. “Once we got up front, we were able to hang on.”
