Summer time – it’s the time in the season when everybody officially makes plans for the 2014 season. And Friday, Kevin Harvick made it official that he will be joining Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) next season. Budweiser, Harvick’s current sponsor, also announced, they will follow Harvick and continue to sponsor him at SHR. Jimmie Johnson crossed the finish line first Sunday afternoon after he put on a dominate performance resulting with the No.48 car in victory lane. No one was close to contending with the five-time champion today, allowing him to score his third victory of the season. Johnson is off to an absolute sizzling start this season, heading into the summer, and he will be looking to stay hot.

The race started out with Carl Edwards taking the lead from pole-sitter Johnson on lap one, but by lap ten, it was Johnson back to the top spot. After a debris caution, Ryan Newman stayed out to take the lead on the restart, but Johnson was able to quickly regain the lead. Newman and Johnson swapped for the lead again, but Johnson took full control for the rest of the race, with 47 laps remaining. Continue reading

Trent Cherry, Penske Pit Crew Coach is ‘One of a Kind’

TrentCherry22Trent Cherry, also known as ‘Twitch’ around the garage, is a proven leader as Pit Crew Coach and with 15-years under his belt at Penske Racing. He knows what it takes as a member of a successful team because he’s also the rear-tire carrier for the #22-Joey Logano team. Although Trent is now on the #22 crew, he’s also been part of the #2 team for most of his career.

Hailing from Charlotte, NC, Trent Cherry began his working experience packaging t-shirts for his dad’s company. So, he’s certainly at home in NASCAR’s racing hub.

When he’s not performing his duties within the Penske organization, Trent is also working behind the scenes representing all NASCAR Sprint Cup crews via pittalks.com, helping to keep the site updated and featuring various Pit Crew members every week.

As for his favorite racing memory, Trent recalls winning the 2002 All-Star race with Ryan Newman. They raced their way into the event and despite starting in last place, the team worked hard and won the All-Star race!

In his spare time, Trent enjoys playing poker and says that Las Vegas is his favorite track. Of course, that’s not because of the on-track racing; instead its his pursuit of a Royal Flush off the track.

The Sprint Cup Series heads to the “paperclip” this weekend for their sixth race of the season. In past years, the Martinsville Speedway has produced great racing and shocking moments. Last year’s Spring Race is likely the most memorable race from the past few years. The drama occurred on the final restart when Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Clint Bowyer spun out while heading into turn 1. Ryan Newman snuck by the accident and took the win.
