Throwback Thursday – Nemechek Becomes first Non-Chaser to Win at Kansas

With Nextel becoming the sponsor of the Cup Series in 2004, NASCAR introduced a new points system as well.

The top-ten drivers in points after 26 races go on to battle it out for the championship over the last ten races of the season.

MB2 Motorsports drier Joe Nemechek missed the Chase field and was only racing for pride during the last ten races in 2004. The only bright spot in his season was grabbing the pole the week before at Talladega. Along with his own Busch Series team, Nemechek ran double-duty at Kansas. Continue reading

Clint Bowyer Celebrating 300th Start at Home Track – Kansas Speedway

Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz learned there’s no place like home and there’s reason to believe Clint Bowyer is thinking the same this weekend at Kansas Speedway. A native of Emporia, KS, there’s no better place to celebrate Bowyer’s 300th start than at his home track.

The Sprint Cup Series is back in action this weekend, and for the first time – and for Bowyer’s 300th start – they’re racing under the lights on Saturday night giving fans another reason to celebrate.

All this takes place on Saturday, May 10th at 7 pm ET on FOX, MRN and Sirius XM channel 90.

Hamlin Holds onto Late Lead for a Talladega Victory

When trouble struck as the white flag was waving, Denny Hamlin was in the perfect position. He was out front and stayed there until NASCAR threw the yellow-flag for debris scattered across the frontstretch. This is the No.11 team’s first victory of the season and the one likely providing a Chase birth.

A mix of drivers led the race early. Paul Menard, Danica Patrick, and Jeff Gordon all shared the top spot before the first caution on lap 14. Continue reading
