Gilliland Matches 50-Year-Old K&N Pro Series Mark with Fourth Straight Win

Todd Gilliland’s unbeaten streak has reached historic proportions.

The 15-year-old Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, driver went from third to first following a late-race restart at Kern County Raceway Park en route to capturing Saturday night’s NAPA Auto Parts 150. It was Gilliland’s second NASCAR K&N Pro Series West win in as many starts this season. More impressively, it was Gilliland’s fourth win in his first four career NASCAR K&N Pro Series starts.

With the win, Gilliland matched the record set by International Motorsports Hall of Famer Dan Gurney. Gurney won the first four NASCAR Pacific Coast Late Model Series races he entered — combination races with the then-Grand National Series at California’s old Riverside Speedway. NASCAR K&N Pro Victory At Kern Would Match Gurney’s 50-Year-Old Mark

Todd Gilliland heads to Bakersfield, California, on the hottest winning streak in 50 years.

Even if he doesn’t equal the all-time NASCAR K&N Pro Series mark for consecutive victories to start in the series, the 15-year-old from Sherrill’s Ford, North Carolina, is in pretty exclusive company.

It’s a club that includes two drivers in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, the 2015 Daytona 500 winner and Gilliland. That’s it. In the 62-year history of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series – dating back to the West Series’ beginnings as the Pacific Coast Late Model Series – just four drivers in both the East and West have won the first two series races to start their career. Now three for three with Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 Win

Making it look easy to compete, Todd Gilliland wins for third consecutive race in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West.

Gilliland started from the pole and took the lead back from Ryan Partridge on lap 123 to win the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at California’s Irwindale Speedway. His victory was his second consecutive victory in his second straight start in the West.

More impressively, the third-generation driver from Sherrills Ford, NC, now joins the history books as a driver to earn three wins in his first three career starts in both the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West. Continue reading →
