Elements of its beginning and the people, places, and things that built this sport. These important moments were never supposed to be forgotten, but they indeed vanished as time went on and the sport grew. When the NASCAR Hall of Fame opened in 2010, the ever so important steps in racing’s history were brought back to life in a remarkable way. The creators of the hall nailed their duty to retell the history of NASCAR, and they did in a way that was never thought of. Thorn Makes Late-Race Charge To Capture First Road Course Victory

Derek Thorn celebrates in Victory Lane at Sonoma after winning the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Carneros 200.

Derek Thorn charged to the lead late in the event and pulled away in a green-white-checkered finish to win the Carneros 200 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Sonoma Raceway on Saturday.

The victory on the 1.99-mile, ten-turn track marked the second win this season, fourth career victory and first road course win for the driver from Lakeport, CA.

Thorn, who finished second at Sonoma a year ago, appeared content to ride in third and save his tires through much of the race as front-runners Michael Self and Cameron Hayley battled for the lead. Continue reading

Marla Weidenaar is a piston and rod specialist for Kalitta Motorsports driver Alexis Dejoria. Although she’s been with her current team for two years, she’s been working in NHRA‘s drag racing for the last four years. Her hometown is New Lenox, Illinois, so being at Chicagoland this past weekend was a bit of a homecoming for this interesting female crew member.
