Harvick Perseveres through Onslaught of Cautions for a Kansas Win
On paper the race may seem a clean-cut day for Kevin Harvick on Sunday at Kansas Speedway, but in reality, the paper is a bit deceiving.
Harvick started the race out front and finished there too, but he was challenged to remain on his game throughout the many restarts which could have meant trouble for the No.29 team. Harvick may have earned the win, but the biggest story of the day was a shift in Sprint Cup challengers at the top. Kansas was filled with chaos and to top all of that off, one of the top championship contenders, Kyle Busch, was caught up in a wreck that may have wiped his shot at the title away. Continue reading
Matt Kenseth wins at Kansas after Kyle Busch-Brad Keselowski dust-up
Matt Kenseth may have won Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Kansas Speedway, but Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski provided the most explosive fireworks in a wild race that featured 11 cautions in 200 laps.
Kenseth pulled away after a restart with five laps left and won going away, as Paul Menard edged Regan Smith for second on the last lap. Busch ran fourth after causing the last caution by sending Keselowski into the fence on Lap 188. Continue reading
Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Preview
When fans think of wild card tracks in the Chase, Talladega and Martinsville come to mind. Over the last year, a new track has proven it belongs on that list and that track is Kansas Speedway. A reconfiguration has turned this once flat track into a high banked thriller. The corners are trickier, the straightaways are faster, and victory is that much harder to do. Kansas has turned itself into one of the most unpredictable races in the Chase. A survival game will be played on Sunday to see who can survive and advance in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Multi-Zone Tread Tire Increases Grip, Durability
Its debut set records. Its encore offered a taste of what’s to come.
“It” is the innovative “multi-zone tread” Goodyear tire that the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers tested Thursday at Kansas Speedway, and will use during Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400, the fourth race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup (2 p.m. ET on ESPN, Motor Racing Network Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio).
Goodyear developed two zones on the right side tires: the outer zone dubbed the “traction zone” – which was made of a sticky and more grip-oriented compound – and the “inner zone” – also known as the “endurance zone” – which was built with a firmer compound to help prolong the tire life.
