The history of the Irwindale Event Center has seen both good and bad times and after closing in 2012, the good times are once again upon this famed racing venue in the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California. In late 2012, Jim Cohan, who ran the LA Driving Experience at the track was able to secure funding to re-open the speedway under his management. The track is back on the NASCAR Home Tracks schedule running a bi-weekly schedule for 2013. Jim Cohan, is now President/CEO, Irwindale Event Center bringing his experience to give the track it’s best chance at sustained success.

Jim Cohan has owned the L.A. Racing Experience, the on-site NASCAR driving school and the country’s top track-based school, since 2005. In 2012, Cohan and his 211 Enterprises team took over Irwindale Speedway and quickly renamed it Irwindale Event Center, highlighting all the various activities on the property. Cohan and his team went to work reopening the Irwindale Dragstrip and eventually secured support from NASCAR to restart Whelen All-American Series action in March 2013. Cohan also owns and operates Advanced Driving Dynamics, a world-class defensive driving program, also at Irwindale Event Center.

Joining the Irwindale Event Center team is Jason Galvin, Director of Communications and Announcer. Galvin has worked in sports broadcasting since 2005. In 2009, he became part of the announcing team at Irwindale Speedway. By 2010, he had moved up to the lead announcer at the track. Now, Galvin serves as the on-track announcer, working along with MAVTV and former SPEED Channel personality Gordon ‘Lug Nutzz’ Stewart and longtime Long Beach Grand Prix announcer Bruce Flanders. Galvin also serves as an announcer at Phoenix International Raceway and has traveled and worked for SIRIUS/XM NASCAR Radio, Home Tracks Radio, the Pac-12 Network, ABC 7 Los Angeles and USA TODAY.

Irwindale Event Center is in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley, less than 25 minutes from down-town Los Angeles, is directly next to the 605 Freeway and easily accessible from anywhere in Southern California. Just about everything with wheels is found racing on the track’s twin ovals, including Stock Cars, Sprint Cars, Midgets, Supermodifieds, Legends, Trucks, and more can all be seen in wheel-to-wheel competition action at this great new facility!
