At Sonoma Raceway, NASCAR Chairman Brian France was on FOX Sports 1’s ‘Race Day’ show before Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race. He addressed some of the biggest questions on the minds of fans about the future of the sport.

Addressing the hunt for a title sponsor in the Cup Series, with Sprint leaving at the end of the 2016 season, France says,

“Several companies here as a matter of fact this weekend, a number of companies taking a very hard look. It’s a very special asset in sports. It’s the only thing you can own outright. So we have a lot of interest, and we just want to make a good decision as we go down the stretch and choose our next partner.”

The cost of sponsoring the Cup Series is huge, so many wonder if it’s possible to see two major sponsors.

“Possible, but I think we have a lot of interest and I would be surprised, but I’ve been surprised before.”

Certainly there’s a deadline for wrapping up a decision on a new title sponsor, with Daytona kicking off the last ten races before the Chase begins at Chicagoland in September.

“Well, we’re right on schedule. We always thought it would be somewhere coming up into the fall, and that’s exactly what’s happened, so we’re right on schedule.”

Road course racing is popular with the fans over the recent years, so many wonder if a road course race could be in the future of the ten race Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

“We would be for it. The reality is it’s very hard to get the schedule to match up.”

A few years ago, when because of rain the Daytona 500 ran on a Monday night, several people have brought the idea of week day racing in NASCAR.

Brian France says, “Don’t see that.”

What about during the summer months when fans are…

Again, France responds with “Don’t see that.”

For several years now, the All-Star race has run at Charlotte Motor Speedway; could fans see the exhibition race rotate on various tracks in the future?

Maybe, and there’s a lot of interest in that very interesting event, and Charlotte has been good to us for a lot of reasons, but we’ll always keep that open.”
