Almirola and Smithfield Foods Make Donation to Feeding South Florida Food Bank
Miami is the First Stop of the Road to the DAYTONA 500 Tour
Miami, Fla. (January 18, 2018) – The Road to the DAYTONA 500 Tour kicked off Thursday in Miami with Aric Almirola, driver of the No. 10 Smithfield Ford Fusion for Stewart-Haas Racing. The media tour included visits to Feeding South Florida food bank, the Freedom Tower, Little Havana and local TV studios where Almirola previewed the upcoming 60th annual DAYTONA 500 – the prestigious season opener for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series which will take place Feb. 18th at Daytona International Speedway.
During Almirola’s visit to Feeding South Florida, Almirola inspected, sorted and packaged donated food items for families in need of assistance. He also presented the food bank with a check from sponsor Smithfield Foods in the amount of $6,010 – with the 60 representing the 60th running of the DAYTONA 500 and the 10 representing his new car number.
Also during his day in South Florida, Almirola visited the Freedom Tower in downtown Miami and Little Havana. Now a contemporary art museum, the Freedom Tower was once the Cuban Assistance Center for those arriving in the United States on freedom flights from Cuba to the United States from 1962 to ’74. Almirola’s paternal grandparents made that flight in 1966 when his father was four years old.
The Road to the DAYTONA 500 Tour takes place in the weeks leading up to the prestigious DAYTONA 500 on Sunday, Feb. 18. The stars of the Monster Energy Series will be visiting cities throughout the United States to promote “The Great American Race.”
