Gaughan Survives Wild and Wet Road America for First Career Nationwide Series Victory

In one of the most bizarre NASCAR Nationwide Series races of the season, Brendan Gaughan battled back from not one but three mistakes to claim victory.

Without the help of a late caution, he didn’t have a shot at the win unless Alex Tagliani ran out of fuel. Under the yellow-flag, Tagliani did run out. That would have handed Gaughan the easy win had it been under green. Instead, he had to work for the glory on the last restart when the exuberant Chase Elliott gave him a run for his money. Road America a Nationwide Series Road-Racing Jewel

road-america-loopRoad America in the state of Wisconsin is a road-racing jewel for the Nationwide Series. A four-mile road course in Elkhart Lake, the track boasts 14 turns and elevation changes that exceed 170 feet in one lap. The famed course has hosted many series over the years, but this weekend, the NASCAR Nationwide Series makes its fifth return for the Gardner Denver 200 Fired Up by Johnsonville, on June 21st with television coverage on ABC at 2:45 p.m. ET. Nationwide Series Gardner Denver 200 at Road America Preview

The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) makes a stop at the 4.048 mile Road America for the fifth straight year this weekend. The race is a stand-alone event as the Sprint Cup Series is off racing at Sonoma Raceway.

No defending winners are in the race at Road America this weekend.  The track has produced two first-time winners (Nelson Piquet, Jr. and A.J. Allmendinger) in the last two years. Continue reading
