Getting her season off to a fast start, Canadian Sarah Cornett-Ching made her way to New Smyrna, Florida this past weekend to race the Red Eye 100 with her Race 101 team. She’ll be racing there again when the K&N Pro Series East kicks off their season at New Smyrna Speedway in February. With testing earlier in the week, practice time on Friday and the race on Saturday, Cornett-Ching is happy with her top-ten finish and feels her seat time this past weekend was a competitive classroom, giving her and her team a head start for their next trip to the track next month. Pocono Raceway has recently installed longer walls along pit road after Kasey Kahne and Jeb Burton spun out in the exact location off turn three and on pit road during practice and the start of the Windows 10 400 back in late August. Both Burton and Kahne had hit nearly the same area in consecutive days. It was Kahne who had the bigger hit when he not only hit the pit road wall, he also sent helmets and other equipment flying. As Tennessee faces Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway on September 10 later this season, it could be one of the biggest games ever participated in by the SEC, if not all of college football. Estimated to fill ‘The Last Great Colosseum’ all the way to the full capacity of 160,000, if not more, it will go down as the largest college football game in history. Just a couple of years before, there was talk of Florida possibly playing a game at Daytona International Speedway after finishing their renovation project.

Believe it or not, Daytona had hosted four college football games before, all by Bethune-Cookman during the 1974 and 1975 season. There hasn’t been a college game at Daytona since then. Even with the downsizing to 101,000 seats, it would still be huge for the super speedway to host a football game once again. Daytona could host Miami, Florida or Florida State in any season. Who knows, down the road they could host their own bowl game. Of course, we’ll leave the bowl naming for the later possibility.
