The National Motorsports Appeals Panel today heard and considered the appeal of a P5 penalty issued on March 31, 2015 to Richard Childress (owner), Ryan Newman (driver), Lucas Lambert (crew chief), James Bender (tire technician) and Philip Surgen (race engineer) relative to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series vehicle #31 at Auto Club Speedway.

NASCAR Xfinity Series Crew Chief Greg Erwin Tops the Owner Point Standings for Team Penske

With five races in the books the teams that are the ones to beat have risen to the top, but they can’t get there without the leadership of a good crew chief. Take a look at the crew chief that has his team leading the Xfinity Series owner point standings:

Greg Erwin replaced Jeremy Bullins this season at the top of the pit box for Team Penske’s No. 22 Ford with drivers Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney. Erwin has worn many hats in the NASCAR world from engineer to competition director, but this season his talents are toward bringing Roger Penske his third consecutive owner title in the Xfinity Series. So far this season the No. 22 team is on the right track, as they lead the owner standings by eight points over JR Motorsport’s No. 88 team. Erwin has led his trio of drivers to one win, four top-fives and two poles in the first five races of the season. Continue reading

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 31, 2015) — The No. 31 team that competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has been penalized for rules infractions discovered as a result of NASCAR’s post-event tire audit conducted following the March 22 race at Auto Club Speedway.

NASCAR Issues Behavioral Penalties To Five Crew Members

For Violations At Auto Club Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 25, 2015) — NASCAR has issued Behavioral Penalties to five crew members for their actions during pre-race March 21 at Auto Club Speedway. The crew members were working for the No. 8 NASCAR XFINITY Series team when the violations occurred.

The crew members violated the following Sections in the 2015 NASCAR rule book:

12-1: Actions detrimental to stock car racing: Involved in a pre-race incident; failure to comply with a directive from Track Security

12.8a: Behavioral Penalty

Crew member Mark Armstrong has been fined $1,500, suspended from NASCAR until April 21 and placed on NASCAR probation through Dec. 31. Crew members Tyler Bullard, Nathaniel House, Jeremy Howard and Ryan Mulder have all been placed on NASCAR probation through Dec. 31.
