A Guide to Eldora

Eldora’s qualifying and race formats differ from the knockout qualifying seen weekly in the NASCAR Camping World Truck series. Below is a guide to how it works.

At Eldora, two-lap, single-truck qualifying determines the starting position for the qualifying races (five in total). A random draw determines the qualifying order with the fastest qualifier earning the Keystone Light Pole Award. Continue reading

Even though his dreams of a career-first top-ten finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series ended in a wreck against the frontstretch wall, Alex Bowman couldn’t conceal his elation.

Alex Bowman, 23, was subbing for Dale Earnhardt Jr., who was sidelined for Sunday’s New Hampshire 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway after experiencing concussion-like symptoms earlier in the week.

And though Bowman had 71 Cup starts to his credit before Sunday’s race, none of them came in equipment remotely comparable to the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet he drove in Earnhardt’s stead. Continue reading

Keselowski Saves Fuel, Wins Wild Race at Repaved Kentucky Speedway

Brad Keselowski had his mojo working in Saturday night’s Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway.

Saving just enough fuel to get to the finish line, Keselowski eked out a heart-thumping victory over Carl Edwards to win his second consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race and his third at Kentucky Speedway.

But this was not the same bumpy, abrasive Kentucky Speedway where Keselowski went to Victory Lane in 2012 and 2014. This was a repaved, reconfigured 1.5-mile intermediate track fraught with treachery, especially when combined with the lower-downforce aerodynamic package in use for the race. Continue reading

Halfway, Next Time By

Tune in to the ‘Officials’ channel on the NASCAR Mobile app, and you’ll hear it at the midpoint of every race: ‘Halfway next time by.’ It’s a phrase that lets competitors know that on the next lap, the race is official.

As for the 2016 season, Kentucky is the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ halfway point. But we all know … it ain’t official until the champion raises the trophy in Miami.

But, this is a good time to reflect back on an incredible first half, one in which fans have taken notice for one fairly obvious reason – the racing is as good as its been in years – heck, maybe ever. Continue reading

Brad Keselowski Dominates Chaotic Sprint Cup Race at Daytona

Brad Keselowski had an excellent solution for the massive wrecks that scrambled the finishing order of Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.

He stayed ahead of all of them.

Leading 115 of 161 laps in the No. 2 Team Penske Ford, Keselowski sped away from his pursuers after a restart in overtime and posted his third victory of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season in thoroughly convincing fashion.

The victory was Keselowski’s first at Daytona and the 20th of his career, and it reinforced his mastery of restrictor-plate racing—Keselowski already had four wins at sister track Talladega. Continue reading
