On their last short track race on the season, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Spencer Gallagher and his GMS Team made the most of a challenging day by racing his No. 23 into the top-ten and as high as third before a late race incident and battery issues at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday afternoon.

Gallagher started the Kroger  from 20th-place, with typical Martinsville racing and early cautions. During  the second caution flag on lap 35, Gallagher brought the No. 23 on pit road with the crew taking care of a tight on exit on throttle issue with four tires and a track bar adjustment. Although the tight condition was still present, a rare forward bite allowed Gallagher to race his way to 13th by the fourth caution on lap 74.  Continue reading

In his début at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Brandon Jones’ patience brought him to his third top-five of the 2015 season. Jones’ finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rhino Linings 350 is his career best 1.5-mile finish.

After strong practice and qualifying sessions, Jones started from the third position and for the first 15 laps, he managed a loose car and tight on exit conditions while navigating traffic. Coming to pit road under caution on lap 21, Jones took two tires, fuel and both an air pressure and track bar adjustment and returned to the track in fifth, with the leaders taking only fuel.

On the restart, Jones’ No. 33 was extremely loose. Crew chief Shane Huffman brought Jones to pit road for his last stop on lap 93, for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment under green flag conditions.

As the rest of the field cycled through pit stops, Jones returned to the top-ten, just outside the top-five until the last laps of the race, finishing in the fifth position. The No. 33 is now eighth in the series owner point standings.

“We had a really fast RSD Chevrolet today,” said Jones during his post-race interview. “I felt like we were chasing the track throughout the entire race. We went from being tight to really loose and never quite got a hold of the right balance. Shane (Huffman, crew chief) made some really great calls to get us the track position we needed to be running up front at the end. I’m glad we were able to pick up another top-five finish for GMS Racing and the No. 33 team.“

Jones’s next Camping World Truck Series start for GMS Racing is at Talladega Superspeedway on October 24th.
