Thorn Makes Late-Race Charge To Capture First Road Course Victory

Derek Thorn celebrates in Victory Lane at Sonoma after winning the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Carneros 200.

Derek Thorn charged to the lead late in the event and pulled away in a green-white-checkered finish to win the Carneros 200 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Sonoma Raceway on Saturday.

The victory on the 1.99-mile, ten-turn track marked the second win this season, fourth career victory and first road course win for the driver from Lakeport, CA.

Thorn, who finished second at Sonoma a year ago, appeared content to ride in third and save his tires through much of the race as front-runners Michael Self and Cameron Hayley battled for the lead. Continue reading

First K&N West Driver Takes Overall Victory in Combo Race
Michael Self continued his winning ways Friday night at Iowa Speedway.

The 22-year-old from Park City, Utah, pulled away from the NASCAR K&N Pro Series field en route to the win in the Casey’s General Store 150. It was Self’s second straight win, his fifth in his last 14 races, and he became the first NASCAR K&N Pro Series West driver to win the annual combination race with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. K&N Pro Series West driver, Cameron Hayley wins at UNOH’s Battle at the Beach in Daytona, February 2013

Cameron Hayley kicks off his 2013 season by winning in Daytona at UNOH’s Battle at the Beach in February. Although, some fans first learned of his skill at that event, NASCAR knew of Cameron Hayley  well before this season began, naming him as one of their prestigious ‘Next Nine’ drivers to watch.

From Calgary, AB. Canada, Cameron Hayley’s love for racing began at seven years of age competing in go-karts. He progressed through the ranks, racing Baby Grands, Legends race cars and eventually late models. Continue reading
