Pit strategy enables Matt Kenseth to Sprint Cup Series best – a fourth win

After postponing the Quaker State 400 from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon, due to rain at Kentucky Speedway, Matt Kenseth and his team raced to their fourth victory of the season.

On a restart on lap 247 – 20 laps short of the race total – Kenseth took advantage of a spin by the race’s dominant #48 car with Jimmie Johnson.  Kenseth took over the lead by taking no tires during his earlier pit stop on lap 242, collecting his 28th career victory. Continue reading →

Not the typical Michigan race on Sunday afternoon, this race featured lots of action and varying strategy leaving many faces at the front throughout the event. By the end of the race, Ford claimed the motor city’s pride as Greg Biffle pulled into victory lane for his first victory of the season. Sprint Cup Series Quicken Loans 400 Preview

Last June when the Sprint Cup Series was at Michigan, a long winless streak was broken by NASCAR’s most popular driver. Junior Nation rejoiced as Dale Earnhardt Jr. pulled into victory lane to celebrate his first Cup win since 2008. It was a day that Earnhardt Jr. and his fans won’t soon forget, but they are also hoping they can get to victory lane again sometime soon. Earnhardt Jr. showed his strength on the freshly repaved Michigan and that could give him a leg-up for this weekend. It’s anyone’s game with the Gen 6 car at Michigan, so it could be Junior celebrating at the end of the race or it could be another driver looking to break through for a victory. Continue reading →

Jimmie Johnson crossed the finish line first Sunday afternoon after he put on a dominate performance resulting with the No.48 car in victory lane. No one was close to contending with the five-time champion today, allowing him to score his third victory of the season. Johnson is off to an absolute sizzling start this season, heading into the summer, and he will be looking to stay hot.

The race started out with Carl Edwards taking the lead from pole-sitter Johnson on lap one, but by lap ten, it was Johnson back to the top spot. After a debris caution, Ryan Newman stayed out to take the lead on the restart, but Johnson was able to quickly regain the lead. Newman and Johnson swapped for the lead again, but Johnson took full control for the rest of the race, with 47 laps remaining. Continue reading →
