McMurray Hangs on for Talladega Victory

For the second straight week, a non-Chaser emerges victorious. It was restrictor-plate master, Jamie McMurray, grabbing the Talladega victory on Sunday. McMurray brought his car to the front in the late going and hung on for his first victory since 2010.

Championship contenders, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson, paced the field in the beginning of the afternoon. They faded as the laps went on, but both managed to survive the biggest obstacle in the Chase.

Surprisingly, only four cars found wrecks throughout the afternoon. The first occurred on lap 72 when Marcos Ambrose got loose in the tri-oval and spun down the track right into Juan Pablo Montoya. Continue reading →

Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 Preview

Nationwide Series drivers début their first 203.22 mile, 90 lap race at Mid-Ohio on Saturday, August 17th with a green flag at 2:30pm ET. The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is the series’ second road course event in two weeks and television coverage begins at 2pm on ESPN with radio coverage on MRN and Sirius XM channel 90. 

Only 12 race events remain before a new NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion is known and predicting the outcome is becoming more difficult with every passing weekend. After Saturday’s race at Watkins Glen, only 74-points separate the top-ten drivers in the point standings. Tenth-place Parker Kligerman could theoretically make up the difference in only two races, although that’s not likely.  Continue reading →

Kyle ‘Rowdy’ Busch found redemption this weekend by convincingly taking the checkered flag to win the Cheez-it 355 at The Glen.

Having surrendered the lead late in the last two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Watkins Glen International, Busch reversed the trend Sunday by winning the at the 2.45-mile road course by .486 seconds over runner-up Brad Keselowski. Continue reading →

Second Daytona Win Gives Johnson Legendary Status

No one has done it since 1982; that is until this past weekend. Sweeping both Daytona races in the same season, Jimmie Johnson broke a 30-year dry spell Saturday night with his win in the Coke Zero 400. Johnson was up front all night and held off his competitors each time they challenged him for the lead. The race was classic Daytona with carnage and nail-biting racing throughout the evening. Restrictor-plate racing doesn’t get any better and this race proved Daytona night racing is fun to watch.

Lap 32 was when Johnson found the front for the first time of the night and he wouldn’t be away from that spot for much more of the race. Continue reading →
