The delicious irony of Regan Smith’s victory in Saturday’s Aaron’s 312 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Talladega Superspeedway wasn’t lost on the driver of the No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet.

With a push from teammate Kasey Kahne, Smith roared out of the pack during the final 400 yards of a green-white-checkered-flag finish and won a race decided when NASCAR called the seventh and final caution an instant before the four cars battling for the win crossed the finish line. The sanctioning body is levying penalties to two NASCAR Nationwide Series teams as a result of their involvement in separate post-race incidents following last Friday’s race at Richmond International Raceway.

Thomas Costello and Michael Scearce, both crew members for the No. 2 team, have each been fined $15,000 and suspended from NASCAR through the next four NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship events. They have also been placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31. Both Costello and Scearce were found to be in violation of Section 12-1 (Actions detrimental to stock car racing. DTEHAaron’s, Inc. is partnering with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama to host a can drive at one of the largest sporting events of the year – Aaron’s Dream Weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, May 3-5.

More than 200,000 NASCAR fans attending Aaron’s Dream Weekend at NASCAR’s Most Competitive Track will have an opportunity to help the hungry in Alabama by bringing canned food items to the Aaron’s Corporate Display at the speedway, located just outside of the frontstretch grandstands. Throughout the weekend, Aaron’s associates and can-drive volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food items such as canned meat, dry cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, paper towels, toilet paper and hygiene products.
