Combination Event Puts Best of East and West on the Same Stage
Once again, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series divisions converge on Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, for the Casey’s General Store 150 presented by Vatterott College on Friday, July 28. The annual combination event for both the K&N Pro Series East and West features teams from each series going head to head on the 0.875-mile D-shaped oval, and since its inception, the race has been a proving ground for future NASCAR success. Coming into the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, Zombie Auto 125 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, Harrison Burton had victory on his mind. Last year, he took the Bristol pole to start the race on the front row, only to experience engine issues that took him out of contention early in the race. Burton and his crew chief Mardy Lindley wanted a different result on Saturday, especially after again starting on pole and leading the field to the green flag at the 0.533-mile track. Reporters met the 2017 NASCAR Drive for Diversity class in the Daytona media center on Saturday. The class includes Collin Cabre and Chase Cabre, the first siblings ever to participate in the same D4D class; Ruben Garcia Jr., the youngest driver to win the NASCAR Peak Mexico Series championship (in 2015 at age 20); Jay Beasley, the first African-American driver to win a Super late Model race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway bullring; Madeline Crane, who posted 59 top-fives in 82 starts in Legend cars; and Macy Causey, the granddaughter of Diane Teel, the first female driver to compete in what is now the NASCAR XFINITY Series.
