Lucas Oil Pros Hector Jr and Adam Arana Help Raise More Than $12K for Charity

Lucas Oil Buell Pro Stock Motorcycle riders Hector Arana Jr. and Adam Arana helped raised more than $12,000 for charity this past March as part of Sonoma Raceway‘s NHRA Tour de Charity.

The Arana brothers raced against fans at the Sonoma Raceway Karting Center in the sold-out event that raised $12,025 for Speedway Children’s Charities. The event has raised a total of more than $122,000 in its 11 years. Continue reading

Thorn Makes Late-Race Charge To Capture First Road Course Victory

Derek Thorn celebrates in Victory Lane at Sonoma after winning the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Carneros 200.

Derek Thorn charged to the lead late in the event and pulled away in a green-white-checkered finish to win the Carneros 200 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Sonoma Raceway on Saturday.

The victory on the 1.99-mile, ten-turn track marked the second win this season, fourth career victory and first road course win for the driver from Lakeport, CA.

Thorn, who finished second at Sonoma a year ago, appeared content to ride in third and save his tires through much of the race as front-runners Michael Self and Cameron Hayley battled for the lead. Continue reading

Last June when the Sprint Cup Series was at Michigan, a long winless streak was broken by NASCAR’s most popular driver. Junior Nation rejoiced as Dale Earnhardt Jr. pulled into victory lane to celebrate his first Cup win since 2008. It was a day that Earnhardt Jr. and his fans won’t soon forget, but they are also hoping they can get to victory lane again sometime soon. Earnhardt Jr. showed his strength on the freshly repaved Michigan and that could give him a leg-up for this weekend. NASCAR announced today that the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will implement the group-based road course qualifying procedure used in NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Touring Series competition during its road-course events at Sonoma Raceway and Watkins Glen International.
