If you were Richard Petty, you were helping rival David Pearson drive the No. 17 Ford to victory lane at Bristol Motor Speedway – then called Bristol International Speedway.

The 1969 Volunteer 500 on July 20, was just hours before ‘one small step’ captivated mankind. It was the first Bristol race on the new, high-banked configuration put in by track owner Larry Carrier, who wanted the fastest half-mile track in the world.  Continue reading

Five Star Race Car Bodies, a division of Five Star Fabricating, Inc. was formed by Fran Prestay and Carl Schultz in the late 1970s in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. It began as a side job for the two in response to a need for innovative sheet metal products in the stock car racing industry. Fran owned an auto service shop across from Carl’s local plumbing and heating business, and after a rough night at the local short track, Fran asked Carl to produce a set of sheet metal fenders for his car since finding stock parts in the salvage yard was difficult and time-consuming. Texas Tussle of Champions: Jimmie Johnson Outduels Kevin Harvick to Win Duck Commander 500

Jimmie Johnson continued his recent domination of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Texas Motor Speedway Saturday night, rallying after a late pit stop for a victory in the 19th annual Duck Commander 500.

Johnson, the six-time Sprint Cup Series champion, took the lead on lap 321 of the scheduled 334 when he drove under and past Jamie McMurray and Kevin Harvick exiting the dogleg of Texas Motor Speedway’ high-banked, 1.5-mile quad-oval. The last 14 laps featured a battle between Johnson and Harvick, the reigning Sprint Cup Series champion, who finished second despite scraping the turn four wall on lap 331. Continue reading
