BMR Teammates battle for the race lead and championship points top-spot
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West 2017 season has seen two championship drivers dominate the series and on Saturday night, the two champs, Todd Gilliland and Chris Eggleston, both Bill McAnally Racing teammates gave fans a thrilling side-by-side battle with sparks flying from both cars before a 0.155 margin of victory decided the winner.
Gilliland, a NASCAR Next driver fiercely fought for his sixth victory this season in the Clint Newell Toyota 150 at Douglas County Speedway on Saturday night. In his 26th series start, Gilliland earned his 13th career victory.
Runner-up, Chris Eggleston won the Coors Light Pole Award earlier in the day and led the field to the green flag. It was his fourth pole of the season, but unlike his previous three pole awards, when he also won the event, Eggleston fell short of celebrating the win.
Switching the lead nine times, the Gilliland and Eggleston battled through four lead changes in the last 25 laps of the race with their teammate and rookie contender Derek Kraus finishing in third-place and giving Bill McAnally Racing a podium sweep.
Another rookie contender, Will Rodgers finished fourth with Julia Landauer rounding out the top-five. Buddy Shepherd, Michael Self, Todd Souza, Trevor Cristiani and Matt Levin round out the top-ten finishers.
Keeping the points lead, Gilliland now sits five points ahead of Eggleston. Kraus is third in the standings just two markers ahead of Rodgers with Self in fifth-place.
Fans can watch the thrilling Clint Newell Toyota 150 on NBCSN this Saturday, September 2nd at 8:30 pm ET.
Next up for the K&N Pro Series West is the NAPA Auto Parts Idaho 208 at Meridian Speedway on Saturday, September 30th.
