The Truck Series will be hitting the dirt later this month in likely the most anticipated truck race in their history. Racing on dirt hasn’t been done in NASCAR since 1970, making this race even more special. Dicing through the pack toward the end of Saturday afternoon’s Nationwide Series Race at Michigan allowed Regan Smith to take the lead after Parker Kligerman had to pit. Kligerman played the rain game, but failed and that left a golden opportunity for Smith. This is win number two for Smith on the season and increases his point lead to much more than a full-race. It may have taken awhile, but the race ended in triumph for Trevor Bayne. After two rain-delays, the Nationwide Series Race at Iowa Speedway finally ran in its entirety on Sunday morning and afternoon. It looked like Austin Dillon was going to run away with the race, but a late race battle sent Bayne to the top spot and Dillon had to settle for second. The race had a decent amount of action and ended with a familiar car doing a burn-out on the frontstretch – the no. 6 car. Continue reading

Keselowski Takes Advantage of Final Restart for Richmond Victory

All night long it was Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, and Kyle Busch battling up-front. The drivers exchanged the lead multiple times over the course of the race. When it was all said and done, Keselowski emerged victorious. All three drivers held the lead at some point with less than 35 laps to go, but the last pass for the lead Keselowski made with ten laps to go led him to victory. It wasn’t a dominant performance by Keselowski, but it was good enough to get him to victory lane. Continue reading

Annual Media Vote Picks Johnson to Win it All in 2013

Better safe than sorry. That may have been the mindset of voters in the annual preseason NASCAR Media poll that tapped five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson as the favorite to win the 2013 title.

Despite a two-year championship drought – an eternity for the El Cajon, Calif. native – Johnson has qualified for the “postseason” Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup in each of its nine seasons. His 22 Chase wins are more than any other driver.
