Wreck in practice forces Chaser Austin Dillon to backup car

A wreck in practice at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was the last thing Austin Dillon needed.

After a 14th-place finish last Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway in the first race of the 2016 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Dillon needs a strong run at New Hampshire to escape the bottom four in the standings.

But with the Round of 16 elimination race looming Oct. 1 at Dover, Dillon had his weekend start catastrophically at the Magic Mile, site of Sunday’s Bad Boy Off Road 300 (2 p.m. ET on NBCSN). Continue reading

Truex Triumphs in Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Opener at Chicagoland

You could see it coming from a mile-and-a-half away.

On new tires, Martin Truex Jr. rocketed around the outside lane after a restart in overtime at Chicagoland Speedway and pulled away to win Sunday’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400, the opening race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

With the victory—his first at the 1.5-mile track, his third of the season and the sixth of his career—Truex also rocketed into the Chase’s Round of 12. But Truex wasn’t satisfied with a ticket into the next round and the prospect of racing stress-free at New Hampshire and Dover, the final two Round of 16 events. Continue reading

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams will race 400.5 miles over 267 laps in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400 on Sunday, September 18th at Chicagoland Speedway. Television coverage begins at 2 pm ET on NBC Sports Network with a green flag around 2:30 pm ET. Radio coverage is on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.

Erik Jones Wins at Chicagoland, Enters NASCAR XFINITY Series Chase as Top Seed

Kyle Busch opened the door, and that was all the invitation Erik Jones needed.

When Busch, the polesitter for Saturday’s The Drive for Safety 300 at Chicagoland Speedway, spun with a tire down while leading on Lap 182 of 200, Jones took full advantage of his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate’s misfortune.

The driver of the No. 20 JGR Toyota restarted sixth on Lap 187 after Busch brought out the eighth caution of the afternoon and quickly closed the gap on Elliott Sadler, who restarted second and grabbed the lead from JR Motorsports teammate Clint Bowyer, who had stayed out on old tires.
