Logano Caps Spectacular Race with Daytona 500 Victory

The record will reflect that Joey Logano won Sunday’s 57th Daytona 500 under caution, when a multicar wreck on the backstretch forced NASCAR to wave the yellow flag as Logano led the field into the final corner on the second lap of a green-white-checkered-flag finish.

But the notation of that final caution does no justice to the memory of a race that produced some of the most scintillating restrictor-plate racing in the history of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Continue reading

The Sprint Cup Series Qualifying session produced more emotion than anyone imagined and amid some crashing and controversy over the new format, Jeff Gordon took the Pole for Sunday’s Daytona 500 on February 22, televised on FOX at 1 pm ET.

This is Gordon’s 78th pole in 762 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts and he becomes the first pole winner to eclipse 200 miles an hour since 1987. Continue reading

2015 Sprint Unlimited: Who is In and Who is Out?

Lineup changes allow deeper 2014 point standing drivers to become eligible.  

Kicking off the 2015 Sprint Cup Series Season, the Sprint Unlimited features an expanded field of drivers based on new eligibility outlined by NASCAR earlier this year. On February 14th the 75-lap, non-points race airs on FOX at 8 pm ET as well as on MRN Radio and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

A minimum of 25 Sprint Cup drivers are eligible for this year’s Sprint Unlimited. In addition to the 2014 Chase for the Sprint Cup drivers, the field includes 2014 Pole Award winners, former Sprint Unlimited race winners and Daytona 500 pole winners who competed in the series full-time in 2014. The remaining spots go to drivers highest in 2014 Sprint Cup driver championship points, not already eligible. Continue reading

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Wins At Martinsville As Calamity Strikes Chase Favorites

On a day that saw two of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup favorites suffer potentially catastrophic problems, Dale Earnhardt Jr. stole a victory from the title contenders on Sunday, passing Tony Stewart for the lead with less than four laps left in the Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway and pulling away for his fourth victory of the season.
